How to be productive while staying fit and active?

Do you sometimes wonder how it’s possible that the people around you seem to be doing a million things at once and making it look effortless? And you're just sitting there. Cozy on the couch, thinking over the possibility of hitting the gym. It might be a good idea. Or go for a swim perhaps... Or maybe just a walk after dinner would also suffice. To be honest, you’d like to feel a little fitter and you want to get more active. If you're struggling with your productivity, use these tips and start exploring what works for you.

Time management

Being productive has everything to do with time management. If you can manage your time smartly, you can get a lot more done in a day. And if you're trying to stay fit or lose weight, productivity is even more important. The more you accomplish during the day, the less inclined you are to indulge in unhealthy habits such as snacking or watching TV.

Set yourself a daily goal

First, therefore, it is important to set yourself a goal. Preferably do so as soon as you wake up. It can be anything from exercising for 30 minutes to completing a project at work. Having a goal will help you stay on track and motivated throughout the day. This will also help you to stay more active throughout the day without even having to think about it.

Make a plan

Once you have your goal in mind, make an action plan. Of course, you don't have to write it out in full, you can also just "think" it over. If your goal is to exercise for 30 minutes, determine when and where you will give it a go. It is important that you establish this so that when the time comes you don't have to think about it. The risk of having to think about it may be that there is a barrier to taking action. So remove the threshold.

If your goal is to complete a project at work, make a list of what needs to be done and put it in your calendar.

By having a plan, you will be less likely to waste time during the day. This may seem like a no-brainer, but to keep you focused and avoid getting sidetracked, making a list where you can literally check things off works great! Plus, you also see everything you need to do in one place, this allows you to prioritize and make better use of your time.

Create space for yourself, literally and figuratively

To achieve your goal, it's best to try to eliminate all distractions. This means (occasionally) turning off your phone, distancing yourself from social media, and finding a quiet place to work or exercise. If you are working from home, close the door to your office or room so you are not tempted to watch TV or do other things that are not beneficial to achieving your goals. Create an environment where you can focus.

Prioritize your tasks

Doing too many things at once will only lead to frustration and ultimately lower productivity. In addition, "having to do everything at once" also just doesn't feel good. Make sure you prioritize your tasks. What has to be done first?

Set a time limit

If you find that you have trouble focusing on one task, set a timer for yourself and commit to working on that task until the timer goes off. If the timer goes off, take a five-minute break and then start the timer again. This technique is known as the Pomodoro Technique.

Take breaks

If you feel overwhelmed or lack of focus and concentration, take a break. Go for a walk, listen to music, or sit outside for a while. Fresh air works wonders. Taking short breaks throughout the day will help you stay focused and active. Also, drink plenty of water and do some stretching exercises in between. That will also help you have a productive day.

Bottom line: do you want to become more productive? It starts with a realistic goal and a plan.

In whatever area you want to become more productive. In all cases, setting realistic goals and making a plan or list really helps. Start the day by setting your goal and take good care of yourself. And of course: celebrate when you achieve your goal! That motivates you to be productive again tomorrow.
